Lot 4053 VERY FINE 2ND MODEL WINCHESTER 1876 LEVER ACTION

RIFLE. Cal. 45-60. S# 16462. Mfg. 1881. This very fine example is fitted with a 28" octagon bbl with dovetailed German silver front sight and "1876" marked adjustable leaf rear sight. The bbl has the standard 2-line bbl address and "Cal. 45-60" caliber marking. The dust cover is of the later serrated edge type with screw mounted dust cover rail. The upper tang is marked with the early plain "MODEL. 1876" with provisions for a tang sight. The lower tang is marked with the assembly markings "EX" & "1573". The elevator is marked with the "45-60" caliber marking. The straight grip walnut stock set has a smooth trapdoor steel crescent buttplate. Both stock in the upper channel and buttplate have matching "1573" assembly numbers. CONDITION: Overall very fine. The bbl retains 85% of its original blue with some light freckled oxidation, faint handling marks and mild edge wear. The mag tube retains about 30% of its original thinning blue with the balance having a dark patina blending with the finish. The frame retains 85% of its original blue with some flaking, mild edge wear and a few light scratches. The dust cover has a similar percentage of the original finish with a few scratches on its face. The stock set is very fine with its original oil finish. The forearm has a few minor edge chips and some scattered dings. The butt is sound with some minor edge chips and some heavier dents and scratches. Buttplate has some pitting and good finish coverage that is thinning on the high points. Tight mechanics. Very nice bright shiny bore with good rifling.
